Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com currently list Virginia Tech as 1-point favorites against the Broncos. The over/under for the game has been set at 51.
Boise State went 14-0 last season, for their fourth straight season with at least 10 wins. The Broncos also won their second BCS Bowl, defeating TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. This year, the Broncos have 21 starters back with 10 each on offense and defense. The offense averaged 42.2 points and 450 yards per-game. Quarterback Kellen Moore is a Heisman candidate as he threw for 3,536 yards and 39 touchdowns with just three interceptions last season. On defense, the Broncos allowed just 17.1 points and 300 yards per-game. Boise State had a +21 turnover differential, which was among the best in the nation.
Virginia Tech was 10-3 last season. It was the sixth-straight season that the Hokies won at least 10 games. Frank Beamer is in his 24th year as coach and he returns 12 starters, eight of which come on offense. Leading the offense will be Ryan Williams, who rusher for 1,655 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. The Hokies also have quarterback Tyrod Taylor back. He threw for 2,311 yards and 13 scores. On defense, Virginia Tech allowed just 15.6 points and 295 yards per-game. The Hokies do have Rashad Carmichael back in the secondary. He had six interceptions to lead the team in 2009.
