The 39-33 loss to the Red Raiders last season is all that kept

Texas from an appearance in the national championship game. Now, the Longhorns bring Texas Tech to

Austin, with the Red Raiders in a re-building phase. The Longhorns have wins over Louisiana-Monroe and

Wyoming so far, but face their toughest test yet in 2009 against the Raiders. Colt McCoy has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the two games. Last week McCoy threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns while James Kirkendoll caught seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. The Longhorns had five sacks and one turnover on defense, but will have to improve in order to keep Texas Tech from racking up 579 yards of offense like it did last season.

The Red Raiders have routed

North Dakota and Rice in their two games this season. Last week, Texas Tech defeated the Owls 55-10 behind 560 yards of offense. Tyler Potts threw for 456 yards and seven touchdowns in the win as Potts if fitting in nicely in Mike Leach’s offense. Tramain Swindall and Lyle Leong each had over 100 yards receiving in the win. Texas Tech held Rice to 257 yards of offense and forced two turnovers.
