The Jayhawks had a strong showing in their 49-3 win over
Northern Colorado. Todd Reesing started his senior season off well, as he had 208 yards passing with two touchdowns and 79 yards rushing with another pair of touchdowns. Jake Sharp rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown as well for the Jayhawks. Kansas dominated in the win despite not having leading receiver Dezmon Briscoe, who had 1,407 yards receiving in 2008, a Kansas school record. Briscoe will return this week after sitting out the opener due to disciplinary reasons. Defensively, the Jayhawks held the Bears to 246 yards of offense and forced two turnovers.

UTEP lost a 23-17 decision to defending Mid-American Conference champion,

Buffalo
, on the road. The Miners led early, but couldn’t hold on as the Bulls scored 16 points in the second quarter to set up the win. James Thomas rushed for two touchdowns while Trevor Vittatoe threw for 233 yards on 27-of-45 passing. Donald Buckram rushed for 108 yards on 14 carries in the loss while Kris Adams caught nine passes for 98 yards. The Miners defense only allowed 309 yards against the Bulls but

Buffalo
had over 100 yards in kick return yardage on just three returns, giving the Bulls’ offense a short field.
