Iowa at PSU
No. 5 Penn State is considered a strong candidate to play for the BCS National Championship this year, but in order to get there, the Nittany Lions have to get a monkey off their back.
On Saturday, Penn State hosts Iowa at 8PM ET from Beaver Stadium looking to avenge a 2008 loss to the Hawkeyes and end a losing tradition to Iowa.
Penn State has lost six of the last seven meetings with Iowa, including a 24-23 decision last season. Penn State lead by nine points entering the final quarter of last year’s game, but Shonn Greene took over for Iowa and led the Hawkeyes to the win.
This year, the Nittany Lions have won comfortably but not convincingly in three games. Penn State has failed to cover the spread in all three contests, but won by at least 21 points in each game. Daryll Clark has thrown for 760 yards and eight touchdowns thus far for Penn State while Evan Royster has rushed for 236 yards to lead the rushing attack. Derek Moye has been the leading receiver with 13 catches for 204 yards and two scores. Defensively, the Nittany Lions are leading the Big Ten Conference in points allowed, total yards allowed, and rushing yards allowed.
Iowa has gotten better with each game after nearly suffering an embarrassing loss to Northern Iowa in the season opener. After the 17-16 win, the Hawkeyes have followed up with a 35-3 win over Iowa State and a 27-17 win over Arizona. Ricky Stanzi has thrown for 644 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions on the year while Adam Robinson has taken over for Greene, rushing for 233 yards and three touchdowns in the three wins. On defense, Iowa has been led by Tyler Sash, who has four interceptions, which ranks second in the nation.
