North Carolina is looking to improve on its struggling offense Saturday when the No. 24 Tar Heels host East Carolina at Noon ET from Kenan Memorial Stadium.

North Carolina had just 268 yards of offense in the win over the Huskies, with just 35 yards rushing as a team. T.J. Yates did throw for 233 yards on 23-of-32 passing with a touchdown, but also threw two untimely interceptions. Even against the Citadel,

North Carolina still didn’t amass 400 yards of offense, as Yates struggled to 114 yard passing, but the rushing attack flourished to over 250 yards. This week,
North Carolina hopes to capitalize over a struggling ECU defense, which allowed over 500 yards of offense last week to

West Virginia.

The Pirates won the last meeting with the Tar Heels, in a 34-31 victory in 2007. This time around, ECU will have to slow down Yates and the UNC passing game, as the Pirates allowed

West Virginia to throw for over 330 yards in last week’s 35-20 loss. Patrick Pinkney threw for 175 yards and a touchdown in the loss, but was sacked four times behind an offense line that could only lead ECU to 62 yards rushing as a team. Even in a narrow 29-24 win over Appalachian State, the Pirates had just 320 yards of total offense.
