CHICAGO (AP) Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer has not allowed a hit through six innings against the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the NL Division Series.
Scherzer is making his first appearance since he tweaked his right hamstring in his final regular-season start on Sept. 30. But the two-time Cy Young Award winner showed no signs of any issues in his 15th career playoff game.
Scherzer has struck out six and thrown 90 pitches Monday at Wrigley Field. He retired his first nine batters before he hit Jon Jay leading off the fourth inning. He also has issued three walks.
The Nationals lead 1-0.
Scherzer is the second Washington pitcher to carry a no-hitter into the sixth in the series. Stephen Strasburg allowed his first hit with two outs in the sixth in Game 1.
