NEW YORK (AP) -Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez has been suspended for two days by the team after he was charged with assaulting his father-in-law at a Citi Field family lounge following a game.
The suspension is without pay and was announced by the Mets before Thursday’s game against Colorado.
Police say Rodriguez was arrested and held at the ballpark and charged with third-degree assault after Wednesday night’s game. His father-in-law was in a hospital with a scraped face and bump on his head.
Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz says Rodriguez was questioned by police and the pitcher has been placed on the restricted list for two days. He will not be with the team during that time.
