Monday’s MLB Best Bets

Even though there are only 9 MLB games this Monday, there is going to be a lot of action on a couple of key meetings.

Look for these two matchups to be your best bets on the slowest day of the week in Major League Baseball. Lots of opportunity to play some interesting angles on both of these games.

Rockies 37-52 at Brewers 49-39

Matchup Report | Best Odds +112 BODOG

Milwaukee is close to finalizing a deal to acquire last season’s AL Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia from

Cleveland
in exchange for a package of prospects, including the highly touted Matt LaPorta. Sabathia, who went 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA for the Indians, would join All-Star Ben Sheets to bolster a starting rotation looking to lead the Brewers to their first playoff berth since 1982.

The Brewers did not look like they would be in the playoff picture as recently as last month, but have gone an NL-best 14-6 since June 15 to make up five games in the standings and jump percentage points ahead of

St. Louis
for the second-best record in the NL.

Colorado lost to
Florida 10-5 on Sunday to snap a five-game winning streak, but the
Rockies now embark on a seven-game road trip where they are a major league-worst 12-31.

Colorado
has dropped 16 of its last 20 away from Coors, and has lost all nine games Monday’s scheduled starter Ubaldo Jimenez (3-8, 4.50) has made on the road.

THESPREAD PICK: BREWERS

Marlins 45-53 at Padres 35-54

Matchup Report | Best Odds +105 SBG GLOBAL

The Padres, who have won only one of their last seven series at home against Florida, are opening a six-game homestand after falling to Arizona 3-2 on Sunday for their 11th loss in 14 games overall.

Florida dropped the first three games of its road trip before defeating
Colorado 10-5 on Sunday to move within 2 1/2 games of NL East-leading

Philadelphia
. The Marlins, whose road trip also includes a four-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers, have lost 18 of 26 on the road.

The Marlins hope to fix some of their road woes as they open a three-game series against the Padres, who enter Monday looking to avoid losing nine straight home games for the first time in nearly 30 years.

The Padres meanwhile, have lost eight in a row at home while getting outscored 66-21. This is
San Diego‘s longest losing streak at

Petco
Park
, which opened in 2004, and it has not lost nine consecutive home games since Aug. 11-30, 1980, when it played at Jack Murphy Stadium.

THESPREAD PICK: MARLINS
