SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The San Francisco Giants are sticking with the roster that got them to the World Series.
San Francisco set its 25-man roster against the Detroit Tigers hours before Game 1 on Wednesday night. The Giants are carrying the same 12 pitchers and 13 positions players as they had in the NL division and championship series.
Ryan Theriot and 2010 playoff star Aubrey Huff made the team over potential speedy pinch-runners Emmanuel Burriss or Justin Christian. All five starting pitchers – Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito and Ryan Vogelsong – are also still on the roster.
Zito is starting Game 1 against Tigers ace Justin Verlander. Bumgarner will start Game 2, Vogelsong in Game 3 and Cain in Game 4. Lincecum will pitch out of the bullpen again.
