(The Spread) – Week 7 of the NFL will get underway tonight when the Cardinals host the Seahawks in Arizona. Elsewhere, teams remain banged up around the league.
Earlier this week the Patriots placed Jerod Mayo on season-ending injured, but linebacker isn’t the only position where the team is now limited. Cornerback Aqib Talib (hip flexor) did not practice on Thursday, nor did receiver Danny Amendola, who suffered a concussion on the final series of New England’s victory over New Orleans last Sunday. Tight end Rob Gronkowski also remains limited by back and forearm injuries suffered months ago.
Of course, no team may have suffered as many injuries in the first six weeks of the season as the Atlanta Falcons. The team placed Julio Jones on season-ending IR last week and has already lost Sean Weatherspoon (foot/short-term IR) and Kroy Biermann (Achilles/IR) to injuries. Steven Jackson remains out with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play on Sunday versus the Bucs, while Roddy White is now dealing with a hamstring injury to go along with his high-ankle sprain. White has played in every game this season but he’s been highly ineffective due to the ankle. Left tackle Sam Baker is also unlikely to play Sunday against Tampa.
In Houston, quarterback Matt Schaub has been ruled out for Week 7 and the Texans will start Case Keenum against the Chiefs. Keenum has never attempted a pass in a NFL regular season game and was a surprise start over T.J. Yates, who guided the Texans to a playoff victory a couple of years ago when Schaub was lost for the season due to an injury.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots are 3.5-point road favorites versus the Jets this week while the Falcons are 7-point favorites against the winless Bucs. The Texans, meanwhile, are 6-point road underdogs versus the undefeated Chiefs at 4:25PM ET.
