SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – New Jersey says it expects desperation from Florida. The Panthers say the Devils are absolutely correct.
An early three-goal flurry was enough to carry the Devils to a 3-2 win in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round series. And when that matchup resumes in Florida on Sunday night, the Panthers say they have to bring a sense of urgency that was lacking at times in the opener.
No matter what happens, the series shifts to New Jersey for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Thursday, of course.
But the Panthers certainly don’t want to dig too deep a hole against goaltender Martin Brodeur and the Devils. New Jersey has never wasted a 2-0 series lead, going 10-for-10 in the Brodeur era.
