Simon received a record ban of at least 25 games for on-ice violence in March, serving the 20th game on Friday.

Martin Brodeur posted his 22nd career postseason shutout Friday night, making 31 saves in New Jersey’s 3-0 win over Tampa Bay in Game 5 of that quarterfinal series. Brodeur is one behind Patrick Roy for most all-time.
SABRE DANCE
Buffalo moved into the second round of the playoffs for the second straight year after holding off the New York Islanders 4-3 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals on Friday night. The top-seeded Sabres will face either the New York Rangers or Tampa Bay, should the Lightning get past New Jersey.

San Jose eliminated Nashville in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year with its 3-2 victory on Friday night. In both years, the Sharks knocked out the Predators in five games and on Nashville’s home ice.
