Igor Shesterkin allowed five goals on 24 shots in Tuesday’s 7-4 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Shesterkin has been great all season, but at least for one day, he lost his groove. The game started out in innocuous fashion, with the Rangers building a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox. Then the second period happened. With just over seven minutes off the clock, Ryan Graves beat Shesterkin for a goal. And then P.K. Subban. And then Dawson Mercer. And then Tomas Tatar. And then Yegor Sharangovich. When all of that action finished at period close, the Rangers trailed 5-2 on the scoreboard. Shesterkin was subsequently replaced by Alexandar Georgiev at the start of the third period. This was the first time Shesterkin has allowed more than four goals in a game since Calgary ripped him for six back at the beginning of November. Fantasy managers who roster Shesterkin should just shrug this one off. Mulligan. Up next on the schedule for the Rangers, a Friday meeting with the Penguins.
