CLEVELAND (AP) -The Cleveland Browns have placed nose tackle Shaun Rogers on injured reserve.
The move on Tuesday was expected after Rogers sustained a season-ending lower leg injury in Sunday’s loss in Cincinnati. Browns coach Eric Mangini said Rogers will need surgery.
The loss is devastating for Cleveland’s defense, which is already without starting linebackers D’Qwell Jackson and Eric Barton. Both had their seasons ended by injuries.
Rogers, a three-time Pro Bowler, recorded 36 tackles with two sacks, two blocked extra points and one blocked field goal. The 6-foot-4, 350-pound run stuffer was the one Browns defensive player that opponents had to account for in their game plans.
The Browns also released wide receiver James Robinson from the practice squad.
