Will Marquise Brown make an impact in Sunday’s matchup against the Eagles? Or will the Chiefs’ wide receiver once again have a limited role in Kansas City’s offense in Super Bowl LIX?
Brown 2024 NFL Season in Review
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown’s 2024 NFL season was significantly impacted by injury. After signing a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on March 18, 2024, he suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation during a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 10, 2024. This injury required surgery and led to his placement on injured reserve, sidelining him for the majority of the regular season.
Brown made his season debut in Week 16 against the Houston Texans on December 21, 2024. In that game, he recorded five receptions on eight targets for 45 yards. He followed this with a four-catch, 47-yard performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. Despite the limited action, his presence provided a notable boost to the Chiefs’ offense.
In the postseason, Brown contributed three receptions on five targets for 35 yards in the AFC Championship Game victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Overall, his 2024 season was curtailed by injury, limiting him to just a few games, but he demonstrated potential value to the Chiefs’ offense upon his return.
Marquise Brown Super Bowl LIX Prop Predictions
I’m taking the under on Brown’s receptions for Sunday. The current number is 3.5, which was the same over/under he had against the Bills in the AFC Championship Game. In that contest, Brown was held to three receptions despite catching Patrick Mahomes’ first two attempts of the game.
As previously noted, Brown has had limited impact on Kansas City’s offense this season due to missing most of the season due to injury. He returned in Week 16 and caught five passes against the Texans. The following week, he caught four passes versus the Steelers and was then held out in Week 18 as the Chiefs rested their starters. He opened the playoffs by catching zero passes against the Texans.
While Brown has been on the field for 71.9% and 73.5% of the team’s drop backs in the playoffs, the field time has not translated to production in the box score. He also draws a bad matchup on Sunday versus the Eagles, who have been tough on opposing receivers. They limit the deep shot opportunities that the Chiefs use Brown for in their offense. I could see him topping out at another three catches, but do see him making a bigger impact than Xavier Worthy.
