According to online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the line in this NFL Wildcard game opened at Saints -10.5. The line moved up to 11 midweek, but once Seattle coach Pete Carroll announced that Matt Hasselbeck would start and not Charlie Whitehurst, the line dropped down to New Orleans -10.

But even with the announcement that Hasselbeck will start, we don’t expect the line will move anywhere but up again. That’s because of the 28,764 wagers placed on this game, 67% of the public favors the Saints -10. If those number hold true leading up to kickoff, then the line will rise again. Will it rise to 11? Probably not. But you can probably get that hook if you’re patient (and assuming you even want it. Obviously if you like the Saints, jump on it now at -10.).

As far as the total is concerned, it opened at 45 but is now down to 44.5. With Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory out for the season, the Saints will have to throw the ball because they’re not going to be able to rely on the inside running game with Reggie Bush. If that thought holds true, then you can probably expect plenty of big plays and stopped clock, which is good for the over.

On the flip side of that, the Seahawks will likely try to establish the run in order to keep Drew Brees on the sidelines. Carroll doesn’t want to get into a shootout with Brees and Sean Payton, so look for Seattle to try and establish the run with Marshawn Lynch.

The Saints finished the regular season with an 11-5 record overall and 7-9 against the spread according to current NFL trends. They were 6-2 on the road this year but just 3-5 against the spread.

The Seahawks won the NFC West despite only winning seven of their 16 games this season. They were also 7-9 against the spread, but 5-3 against the number at home. They were also 5-3 straight up at Qwest Field, which is where they’ll be when they take on the Saints at 4:30PM ET on Saturday.
