Colts Defensive Props

Defense isn’t expected to be a big part of Super Bowl XLIV, but the Indianapolis Colts are looking to change that assumption.

The Colts enter the Super Bowl as 5-point favorites over the New Orleans Saints according to online sports book Brobury Sports. The Over/Under for the game has been at 55.5.

With such a prolific offense, it is easy to forget that the Colts have a solid defense. On the year, the Colts are giving up just 19.2 points per-game. The front four of

Indianapolis
are solid, racking up 34 sacks on the year, but much of that is due to the play of Dwight Freeney, who may not be able to play due to torn ligaments in his ankle. Even if Freeney does play, his abilities will clearly be limited.

In the secondary, the Colts have 16 interceptions on the year with two defensive touchdowns. Indy has also forced 13 fumbles on the year. Gary Brackett had led the defense with 112 tackles and two sacks on the year. Bracket averages seven tackles per-game.

Punter Pat McAfee has punted the ball 64 times during the regular season and 10 times during the playoffs. His average for the year is 44.55 yards per-punt. He has punted for longs of at least 53 yards in 10 of 18 games on the year and he also has recorded seven touchbacks on the year.

When it comes to betting, the over looks good in tackles for Brackett and longest punt for McAfee. In terms of tackling, the pace of the game and the total number of offensive plays for the Saints will be key in determining those numbers. With the Saints offense expected to perform well, tackle numbers should be up for the Colts.
