NFL Week 17 Injury Report

(The Spread) – Week 17 in the NFL is also a dangerous time for bettors because it’s sometimes unclear which starters will play and which won’t as teams rest up for the playoffs. Read our 2010 NFL Week 17 Injury Report to get the latest news on starters, injuries and more.

According to current NFL odds and oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the Texans are 3-point favorites over the Jaguars in Week 17. Several starters will be out for this matchup.

Andre Johnson will underdog arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome ankle next week and will likely miss the game against the Jaguars. Also out for this game is Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard, who had surgery on his finger earlier in the week. The Jags will also be without star running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who will likely have surgery to repair an injury to his right knee.

Saints’ running back Pierre Thomas re-tweaked his ankle in practice on Friday and is now considered questionable for New Orleans’ big showdown with the Bucs on Sunday. Thomas is coming off one of his best efforts of the season, as he compiled 102 yards and a touchdown in the Saints’ win over the Falcons. Also listed as questionable on the Saints’ injury report is Marques Colston (knee).

Bills’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is questionable with a knee injury against the Jets. He missed practice all week and didn’t take a single snap, which means Brian Brohm could get the start against New York. The Jets are currently 1-point favorites for Sunday’s game.

Speaking of the Jets, Mark Sanchez is expected to start against the Bills but he won’t play much. He did very little passing in practice on Friday and he’s still nursing a sore/torn shoulder.

Don’t expect the Patriots’ Tom Brady and Wes Welker to sit against the Dolphins. Both will be in uniform and will play into the second half, although Bill Belichick may pull the two players at some point to avoid injury.

The Lions could be without receiver Calvin Johnson for their game against the Vikings. He was held out of practice all week and is now a game-time decision. He’s listed as questionable on the Lions’ official injury report, but you’ll have to check reports on Sunday to get a more accurate reading on Megatron’s playing status. Brett Favre is also unlikely to play against the Lions, as he failed several concussion tests during the week.

Darren McFadden is listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Chiefs. He missed practice throughout the week and doesn’t appear to be ready to play. If he does, he’ll likely split carries with Michael Bush.
