PHOENIX (AP) – An Arizona lobbyist who was targeted in an investigation into corruption at the Fiesta Bowl is set for sentencing.
Gary Husk was a leading figure in the Fiesta Bowl case but avoided any serious charges after a lengthy investigation. In a deal with prosecutors, the 56-year-old pleaded guilty to a single unrelated misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to make a prohibited contribution.
While prosecutors aren’t seeking jail time, Husk faces up to six months during a Monday hearing.
He has agreed to pay $30,000 in restitution.
Husk was charged with using his firm’s money to reimburse staffers who made contributions to politicians such as Gov. Jan Brewer.
The case against him arose from a fraud investigation into the Fiesta Bowl. His firm represented the bowl from March 2000 to January 2011.
