Fiesta Bowl Public Betting Report

GLENDALE, AZ (TheSpread) – The largest point spread of any BCS Bowl Game is No. 9 Oklahoma taking on No. 25 Connecticut in the 2011 Fiesta Bowl at 8:30PM ET.

Connecticut is 8-4 on the season while Oklahoma is 11-2 on the season. The Sooners were the Big 12 Champions this year while the Huskies won the depleted Big East Conference.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have given Oklahoma point spread odds of -16.5 against Connecticut on Saturday while the over/under total has been set at 54.5 points. (View Matchup)

Public betting shows that the public is backing the Sooners slightly with 56% of the public bets going on Oklahoma at -16.5 against the Huskies. Over 40,000 public bets have been placed on the game.

Connecticut was expected to have a strong year but started the season at 1-2 with a pair of non-conference losses, but a five-game winning streak to end the year got the Huskies an automatic BCS bowl bid by winning the Big East. Oklahoma has been more battle tested by facing five ranked opponents during the year. However, the Sooners did struggle against non-conference opponents this season, winning their three non-conference games against unranked opponents by a total of 12 points. Perhaps the large spread is why the public betting is not more in favor of Oklahoma.
