GLENDALE, AZ (TheSpread) – It has been over a month since the 2011 BCS National Championship game was announced. Here is a look at how the spread has changed over that time.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com have given Auburn point spread odds of -1 in the title game against Oregon. The over/under has been set at 72 points. (View Matchup)

Opening odds had Auburn favored by 3 points. The SEC Champions held strong as a 3-point favorite from the day the line opened on Dec. 5 until Dec. 31 when the line changed to Auburn -2.5. On New Year’s Day the spread climbed back to 3 points but since then the spreads has slowly worked its way down and has now closed at 1 point.

For the over/under total, opening odds were set at 74.5 points. The total quickly jumped to 75 points, which would be the highest it would get. The total held at 74 points for most of December and into January before the total started to fall back. The total was at 73.5 points late last week before dropping down to 72 points to close on Monday night.

There have been plenty of wagers placed on this game with over 100,000 being made, but the spread has gotten closer and closer to Oregon while the point total keeps falling. That says oddsmakers see something in Oregon to make them think the game is going to be more of a toss up than originally planned and they also expect the offense to be slightly less potent than they thought a month ago.
