SAN DIEGO, CA (TheSpread) – Two high-profile offenses may be slowed down by wet conditions on Thursday as San Diego State takes on Navy in the 2010 Poinsettia Bowl.
San Diego State is 8-4 on the season and 6-4-1 against the point spread odds. Navy is 9-3 on the year and 7-5 against the point spread odds. Several days of heavy rain left Qualcomm Stadium flooded and under inches of water just last night, but the game is expected to go on as scheduled.
Trends show that Navy is 14-2 against the point spread odds in their last 16 games against the Mountain West and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 bowl games while San Diego State is just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a cover.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have made given San Diego State point spread odds of -3 against Navy on Thursday. The over/under point total has been set at 57.5. (View Matchup)
Opening odds had San Diego State favored by 5 points. The spread has since dropped back to 3 points. The over/under total opened at 60.5 but that has steadily fallen back to 57.5 points.
San Diego State won just one of its last three games to end the season. On the year, the Aztecs are averaging 35 points per game and 297 passing yards per contest, which could be a problem with slick field conditions. On defense, SDSU gives up 22.8 points per game. Leading the team is quarterback Ryan Lindley, who has thrown to 3,554 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season along with 4 interceptions.
Navy had won four straight entering the bowl game, scoring at least 31 points in each contest. ON the season, the Midshipmen are averaging 31 points per game on offense to go along with 288.9 rushing yards per contest, which ranks fifth in the country. On defense, Navy is giving up 22.3 points per game. Leading Navy is quarterback Ricky Dobbs, who has thrown for 1,380 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 860 yards and 13 scores.
In terms of injuries, Navy linebacker Max Blue is questionable for the bowl game with a back injury while San Diego State linebacker Marcus Yarbrough is questionable with a foot injury.
Over 38,300 public bets have been placed on this game with Navy getting 52% of the wagers with point spread odds of +3 against San Diego State on Thursday.
