CHARLOTTE, NC (TheSpread) – New Year’s Eve kicks off its day of college football with the 2010 Meineke Bowl with South Florida take on Clemson.

South Florida is 7-5 on the season and just 4-7 against the point spread odds while Clemson is 6-6 overall and 5-7 against the spread. The two teams have combined to go under the point total in 18 of 22 lined games this season. Trends show that South Florida is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games against the ACC while Clemson is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 bowl games.

Opening odds had Clemson favored by 4.5 points. The spread grew to 6 points at one point before settling in at 5.5. The over/under total opened at 40 points and has since just added the hook.

South Florida lost two of its last three games to end the year. Three of their losses this season were by 7 points or less. The Bulls average 23.5 points per game on offense while giving up just 19.5 points per contest on defense. South Florida has been a rushing attack for the most part as Moise Plancher has led the way with 743 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Clemson was inconsistent all season, never winning more than two games in a row. The Tigers were held to less than 20 points in five games this season as they averaged just 23.8 points per contest, but the defense held opponents to 17.8 points per game. Like South Florida, Clemson is predominantly a running team. The tandem of Jamie Harper and Andre Ellington have combined for over 1,400 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

In terms of injuries, South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels is not expected to play due to a quad injury while Clemson running back Andre Ellington is also doubtful with a foot injury.

Over 11,400 public bets have been placed on this game with Clemson getting 58% of the wagers with point spread odds of -5.5 against South Florida.
