24 of the Top 25 teams took the field this past weekend with five coming out on the losing end. Here is a look at some surprises from the opening week.

BYU tops Braford-less Sooners

BYU was a 22-point underdog against

Oklahoma
on Saturday according to online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Not only did the Cougars cover the spread, but they pulled off a 14-13 victory. The key to the win was

Oklahoma
losing defending Heisman Trophy winner, Sam Bradford, who injured his shoulder in the first half and did not return.

Oklahoma
was held to 265 total yards by BYU, including just 147 yards passing.

Navy covers against

Ohio
State

Saturday was supposed to be about Terrelle Pryor emerging as the leader of the Buckeyes, but instead it was about

Ohio
State
taking a sigh of relief after holding off the Midshipmen.

Ohio
State
seemed to be on its way to covering the 22-point spread it was given when it led Navy 29-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Midshipmen put together the big plays and got the score to within two at 29-27. Navy went for a two-point conversion to tie the game, but the Midshipmen had their pass intercepted and returned for two points for the Buckeyes to make the final score of 31-27. While it was a loss for Navy, it was an impressive showing on the road.

Iowa
blocks an upset

Iowa almost suffered a loss as embarrassing as
Michigan’s loss to Appalachian State two years ago, when the Hawkeyes held on for a 17-16 win over Football Championship Subdivision opponent,
Northern Iowa.
Northern Iowa had two field goal attempts in the closing seconds that would have given it the win, but both were blocked by the Hawkeyes to give Kirk Ferentz a narrow victory.

Irish impress in dominant win

Notre Dame was a 14.5-point favorite entering its season opener with

Nevada
, but the Irish made short work of that, rolling to a 35-0 win over the Wolf Pack. The Irish led 28-0 and halftime and held

Nevada
to 307 yards. Jimmy Clausen threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns to lead Notre Dame while Michael Floyd had 189 yards receiving with three scores.
