North Carolina fans excited for the 2009 football season, and the Tarheels open play on Saturday against The Citadel at 6PM ET from Kenan Memorial Stadium.

Davis took over at UNC in 2007 and amassed a 4-8 record, but in 2008, the Tar Heels doubled their win total with a record of 8-5. This season, UNC is hoping to contend for the ACC championship. Currently ranked 21^st, the Tar Heels have a lot to be excited about. T.J. Yates will lead the UNC offense at quarterback after missing half of 2008 with an ankle injury. Yates did throw for 1,168 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Yates losses his top three targets this year, but does return leading rusher, Shaun Draughn, who rushed for 866 yards in 2008. On defense, The Tar Heels are led by linebacker Quan Sturdivant, who amassed 122 tackles in 2008. Also back on the defensive side of the ball are All-ACC selections Marvin Austin and Kendric Burney.

Austin had 38 tackles at defensive tackle last season while Burney had 78 tackles as a cornerback.

The Citadel is coming off a 4-8 record in 2008, but does return receiver Andre Roberts, who caught 95 passes for 1,334 yards to earn All-American honors in the Football Championship Subdivision. Roberts also carried a 19.2-yard punt return average in 2008. Roberts has his quarterback, Bart Blanchard, back after he threw for 2,436 yards last season.
