No. 11 LSU looks to avoid being the first team to lose to

Washington in 21 months when the Tigers travel to Husky Stadium to face the Huskies Saturday night at 10:30PM ET.

LSU won the national championship in 2007, but the Tigers are coming off a slightly disappointing 2008, where they finished 8-5 in Les Miles’ fourth season as coach. This season, LSU brings back 14 starters, seven on each side. Quarterback Jordan Jefferson took over late in 2008 and will start to open 2009.
Jefferson threw for 419 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception in his limited action in 2008. The Tigers will mix in the wildcat formation at times with freshman Russell Shepard taking the snaps at quarterback. LSU struggled on defense in 2008, allowing 30 points in five different games. The Tigers hired a new defensive coordinator in John Chavis, who has All-SEC defensive end Rahim Alem back. Alem had eight sacks and 29 tackles in 2008.

The Huskies begin the Steve Sarkisian era on Saturday as the former USC offensive coordinator tries his hand as a head coach.

Washington has lost 14-straight games, dating back to November of 2007. Sarkisian has 18 starters back from 2008, including quarterback Jake Locker, who missed most of 2008 with a hand injury. Locker did throw for over 2,000 yards and rushed for 986 yards in his freshman year in 2007. On defense, the Huskies return 10 starters, led by linebacker Mason Foster, who had 105 tackles and 11 tackles for loss. Defensive end Daniel Te’o-Nesheim was a First Team All-Pac 10 selection last season after recording eight sacks and 65 tackles.
