Tigers edge UAB for fifth straight win
Auburn edged Alabama-Birmingham by a count of 75-71 in overtime in a neutral setting Saturday. The Tigers outscored the Blazers 12-8 in the overtime session. Jared Harper poured in a game-best 31 points on 7-of-19 shooting and 15-of-16 at the charity stripe. He also pulled down four rebounds and dished out three assists. Chuma Okeke added 11 points plus six rebounds and two blocked shots. Auburn shot out 22-of-57 from the floor and 4-of-22 on 3-point attempts, but did connect on 27-of-34 from the free throw line.
Wolfpack races past Nittany Lions
North Carolina State rolled to an 89-78 win over Penn State Saturday in the Air Force Reserve Boardwalk Classic. The Wolfpack outscored the Nittany Lions 49-41 in the second half to secure the win. North Carolina State shot a sizzling 34-of-56 from the field and 7-of-14 on 3-point tries, while going 14-of-20 at the free throw line. Braxton Beverly led the Wolfpack with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting plus five assists and three rebounds. Torin Dorn contributed 15 points and four rebounds. C.J. Bryce had 13 points, four boards and two steals. Markell Johnson tallied 13 points, five caroms and five dimes off the bench. D.J. Funderburk added 12 points and two rebounds.
