NEW YORK (AP) – Dwyane Wade says he felt unwanted by the Knicks and thought that LeBron James could have ended up in New York.
The Miami Heat guard said New York is a big stage and could make a player a worldwide star, so he saw it as a possibility for James. So did many Knicks fans, who thought the league’s MVP wouldn’t be able to resist the possibilities that the league’s biggest market offers.
Instead, James joined Wade and Chris Bosh with the Miami Heat, who were playing in New York for the first time this season Friday night.
The Knicks had enough money to sign two maximum salary players, and James and Wade were the top two on the market. But Wade says he didn’t “think they really wanted me here anyway.”
