TORONTO (AP) -Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells left Wednesday night’s game against Baltimore after six innings because of a left leg cramp.
Wells clutched at his knee and lower thigh after stealing third base in the bottom of the sixth. Trainer George Poulis and manager Cito Gaston came out to check on Wells, who stayed in the game and scored when Scott Rolen singled to left.
Alex Rios moved from right to center in the top of the seventh, with Brad Wilkerson entering the game in Wells’ spot.
Wells, who went 2-for-4 and drove in a run Wednesday, is batting .287 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs this season.
The 29-year-old Wells is in the first season of a seven-year, $126-million contract extension. He missed 26 games earlier this season after he fractured his right wrist making a diving catch May 9 at Cleveland.
