MILWAUKEE (AP) -The Chicago Cubs made three player moves Wednesday before their game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
RHP Angel Guzman (0-1, 3.56 ERA) was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 2. He has a strained right elbow and is scheduled for an MRI later Wednesday. In his second stint with Chicago, he has made 12 appearances, including three starts.
RHP Sean Gallagher was selected from Double-A Tennessee to take Guzman’s spot. The 21-year-old was the Cubs’ 12th-round pick in the 2004 draft and was 7-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 11 starts at Tennessee.
“We look at Gallagher as a starter,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said before the game. But he’ll be used temporarily in long relief.
RHP Roberto Novoa was transferred to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Gallagher. Novoa has been on the disabled list since March 31.
