CINCINNATI (AP) – Left-hander Mike Kickham will pitch out of the Giants’ bullpen for now.
San Francisco moved the rookie out of the rotation on Tuesday, a day after he had another rough outing. Kickham lasted only 2 2-3 innings in an 8-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds, allowing seven runs.
Kickham lost all three of his starts since he was called up to replace the injured Chad Gaudin on June 24. Overall, Kickham gave up 21 hits and 16 earned runs in 10 1-3 innings.
Manager Bruce Bochy was noncommittal about which player would give up a roster spot when Gaudin returns from his bruised right elbow. He’s eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday.
