deGrom guides Mets to win

New York overcame a slow start to post a 4-1 home win Saturday over Miami to improve to 19-20 overall and 9-8 at home. Over seven innings of work, Jacob deGrom allowed one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Michael Conforto helped lead the offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a walk. Helping his own cause, deGrom was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Pete Alonso ended the contest 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Noah Syndergaard will start today for the Mets as he enters with a 2-3 record, 5.14 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 54 strikeouts over 49 innings.

Nats shut out at Dodgers

Washington was no-hit into the eighth inning Sunday afternoon in a 6-0 loss at the Dodgers to fall to 16-24 overall and 9-13 on the road. The Nationals trailed 2-0 before giving up four runs in the eighth as the hosts blew it open. Gerardo Parra had the lone hit in the contest for Washington as he went 1-for-3 with a double that broke up the no-hitter. Stephen Strasburg suffered the loss as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over six innings of work. Jeremy Hellickson will start tonight for the Nats as he comes in with a 2-1 record, 5.52 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with 26 strikeouts over 31 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are 4-1 in their last five games versus the NL East. New York is 1-7 in its last eight road games.

Washington

The Nationals are 2-6 in their last eight games overall. Washington is 6-0 in the last six Hellickson home starts.

Prediction:

Hellickson has seen the Nationals get wins in his home starts, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s pitched well. He allowed six earned runs in his last home start April 28 against San Diego, but Washington rallied for a 7-6 victory. Syndergaard was phenomenal two starts ago and should be able to handle a Nats lineup that has plenty of right-handed bats. Look for the Mets to get the job done here.
