Machado hits first HR with Dodgers

Los Angeles third baseman Manny Machado hit a solo home run in Thursday’s 8-2 win at Atlanta, his first since coming over in a trade with Baltimore. He went 1-for-4 with the home run and a walk in the victory. Joc Pederson was 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Yasmani Grandal finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Cody Bellinger ended the game 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Chris Taylor went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Alex Verdugo was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Rich Hill earned the win as he was stellar through seven shutout innings, giving up three hits while striking out eight and walking one.

Albies returns to Braves lineup

Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies returned to the Atlanta lineup Thursday after missing some time due to a tight hamstring suffered over the weekend. He was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the contest. Ronald Acuna Jr. was 1-for-4 as his 2-run homer accounted for both of the Atlanta runs. Freddie Freeman ended the game 2-for-4. Anibal Sanchez took the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 6 1/3 innings.

Kershaw (3-5, 2.64 ERA) takes the hill for LA tonight, while Mike Foltynewicz (7-6, 2.85) will go for Atlanta.

MLB Betting Trends

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine Friday games. Los Angeles is 21-9 in its last 30 road games.

Atlanta

The Braves are 3-11 in their last 14 road games. Atlanta is 2-6 in its last eight home games.

Prediction:

Kershaw still doesn’t look like the dominant pitcher of old, but he is getting the job done basically every time out. Conversely, Foltynewicz has struggled as of late as his All-Star numbers have started to take a serious dip. I can’t trust Foltynewicz in this spot to keep the Dodgers at bay enough to compete with Kershaw, who should be able to limit Atlanta to a couple runs max before turning it over to an outstanding bullpen.
