DeJong, Carpenter guide Cards

Facing a 2-0 deficit in the seventh inning Wednesday at Miami, the Cardinals tied it up on a 2-run homer by Paul DeJongMatt Carpenter gave St. Louis a 3-2 advantage the following inning with a solo home run. DeJong was 2-for-4 as he also doubled, while it was Carpenter’s only hit in four at-bats. Marcell Ozuna finished the game 2-for-4. Miles Mikolas earned the win as he allowed two earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk over seven innings. Bud Norris walked one and struck out one in one inning to earn his 22nd save.

Dietrich has 3-hit night

Derek Dietrich ended the night 3-for-4 with a run scored from the leadoff spot last night in the loss. Justin Bour was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Elieser Hernandez took the loss as he gave up one earned run on one hit in relief, striking out two and walking none.

John Gant (3-4, 4.12 ERA) starts today for the Cardinals, while Trevor Richards (3-6, 3.92) gets the nod for Miami.

MLB Betting Trends

St. Louis

The Cardinals are 2-8 in their last 10 Wednesday games. St. Louis is 2-9 in Gant’s last 11 starts.

Miami

The over is 7-2 in the last nine meetings in Miami. The over is 15-6 in the last 21 meetings overall.

Prediction:

The Cardinals finally showed life in the last few innings at Miami to even the series, but I actually like the Marlins more today. Richards has been solid of late and is seemingly figuring out how to pitch at the MLB level. Gant is only an average pitcher and the Marlins should get a few runs off him, which should be enough.

MLB DAILY PREDICTION: MIAMI MARLINS +108
