Reds Season Odds

Will this be the year that the Cincinnati Reds finally ends their nine-year losing streak? Let’s take a look at their 2010 baseball odds.

The Reds made a couple of additions this offseason, including signing Cuban national team member Aroldis Chapman to a six-year, $30.25 million contract. The club also signed shortstop Orlando Cabrera, catcher Ramon Hernandez and outfielder Jonny Gomes. Third baseman Scott Rolen and reliver Nick Masset were each offered two-year extensions and Aaron Miles was acquired from the A’s in exchange for third baseman Adam Rosales and outfielder Willy Taveras.

Many people are high on the Reds this season, and for good reason. Johnny Cueto and Homer Bailey complement veterans Bronson Arroyo and Aaron Harang, although all four pitchers will have to keep their ERA below 4.50 in order for the Reds to be successful. A quick recovery for ace Edison Volquez from Tommy John surgery would also help.

While Rolen, Miles and Cabrera will certainly play their parts, the key to the Reds’ offensive success will have to come from Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto and Jay Bruce. If Rollins and Votto have MVP-caliber seasons, the Reds could be a deep sleeper to win the NL Wild Card.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Reds 50/1 long shots to win the 2010 World Series and 20/1 to win the NL Pennant. They’re also 8/1 to win the NL Central and have an over/under total of 80 for regular season wins.
