White Sox Season Odds
The Chicago White Sox have more than enough pitching to win the AL Central this year, but will their lackluster offense hold them back? Let’s take a look at their 2010 odds.
Led by relatively new addition Jake Peavy (whom was acquired via trade last year, but ultimately didn’t have an impact due to an injury), the White Sox boast one of the best starting rotations in the American League. Along with Peavy, Mark Buehrle, John Danks, Gavin Floyd and Freddy Garcia will be tough to beat on a weekly basis.
That said, the one thing that would probably hold Chicago back this year would be the team’s offense. GM Kenny Williams did well to acquire Mark Teahen and Juan Pierre in the offseason, but neither player will give the White Sox’s offense the shot in the arm that it needs. They’re fine role players, but the Chi Sox need more players that can get on base on a consistent basis.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the White Sox 25/1 long shots to win the 2010 World Series. They’re also 1.5/1 to win the AL Central this year, 12/1 to win the AL Pennant and have an over/under total of 83.5 for number of wins in 2010.
Can the White Sox win the AL Central? Given how good their pitching is – yes. But they’ll need their offense to step up in order for that to happen. Chances are they’ll be a station-to-station ball club again this year. But if they can get more production from the bottom of their order, don’t be surprised if the Chi Sox emerge as a sleeper in the American League this season.
