Orioles Season Odds
The Baltimore Orioles have put together a nice young outfield, but do they have enough overall talent to take down the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East?
Over the years, the Orioles have become the model for how not to build an organization. Mega free agent busts have haunted them before, but that seems to be a thing of the past as Baltimore has decided to turn to youth over the past few seasons.
The O’s have compiled a ton of young talent, namely outfielders Adam Jones and Nick Markakis, catcher Matt Wieters and pitchers Brian Matusz, Zach Britton, Chris Tillman and Jake Arrieta. All of the previously mentioned players have a ton of upside and show the kind of potential that has Baltimore fans excited for the future.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Orioles 60/1 long shots to win the 2010 World Series and 25/1 to win the AL Pennant. They’re also long shots at 20/1 to win the AL East and have an over/under of 74 for number of wins this season.
Like every year, the Orioles face one huge problem: they play in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox. And as of right now, Baltimore just doesn’t have the overall talent to unseat the Bombers and BoSox in the division – especially with their starting pitching.
That said, the Orioles represent one of the true dark horses in the American League based on their young core and if players like Jones, Markakis and Wieters step up, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Baltimore emerge as a Wild Card contender.
