Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the New York Yankees 3/2 favorites to win the 2010 American League Championship after winning the World Series last year. The team with the next best odds is the Boston Red Sox at 3/1 despite being knocked out in the first round of the MLB playoffs last season.

The Red Sox have favorable odds to win next year despite losing Jason Bay to the New York Mets via free agency. Boston has failed to add a comparable piece to counter Bay leaving, outside of the signing of Mike Cameron.

The club that knocked out the Red Sox, the Los Angeles Angels, is 7/1 to win the AL Pennant. The Halos made a significant move in the offseason when they signed 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui.

Another team that made a splash in the offseason was the Seattle Mariners, who traded for former Cy Young winner Cliff Lee. With one of the better rotations in the American League, the M’s (who are 8/1 to win the AL Pennant) have a decent shot of making a run this season.

One long shot to keep an eye on this season is the Texas Rangers, who are 12/1 to win the AL Championship. They have a great lineup capable of lighting up the scoreboard on a nightly basis, although their pitching will determine whether or not they have any success this season.
