St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul DeJong went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Saturday in an 8-2 victory for the Cardinals over the Rangers on Saturday. DeJong picked up an RBI in the third, and two innings later, the shortstop drove in two with a double that scored Matt Carpenter and Matt Carpenter. The final RBI came on his solo homer, which gives DeJong eight on the 2019 campaign. The 25-year-old has seen his numbers come down a bit as of late, but he’s still hitting .322/.413/.563 with 23 RBI and three steals over 46 games.
Texas Rangers Fantasy Spin
Willie Calhoun went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Rangers’ loss to the Cardinals on Saturday. Calhoun grounded out to first in the fifth inning to pick up his sixth RBI in just four games. He’s also hitting .450 with an .800 slugging mark in that time frame. Calhoun was once one of the top offensive prospects in baseball, and while this is a very small sample size, he’s looked the part so far. The question with Calhoun is whether he’s going to get enough playing time to be relevant in 2019, but if you are weak on outfield help, he’s certainly worth a speculative addition.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 3-7 in their last 10 interleague games versus a left-handed starter.
Texas
The Rangers are 1-6 in their last seven games when their opponent allows two runs or fewer in its previous contest.
Prediction:
Despite winning on Saturday, the Cardinals are just 1-7 in their last eight games versus the Rangers and have dropped 12 of 16 overall. Jack Flaherty will toe the rubber for St. Louis today and while he’s projected as the club’s future ace, the Cardinals are just 2-6 in his last eight outings on the road. On the other side, the Rangers have won five of their last seven home games versus a team with a winning record and can slug just as well as the Cardinals.
The Pick: Texas Rangers +140
