Thursday CBB Free play. My selection is on Florida International minus the points over Marshall at 7 pm et on Thursday.
I fully expect to see this line climb a little bit ahead of tipoff as Florida International hosts Marshall on Thursday night. The Thundering Herd have now dropped four of their last five games, including back-to-back losses against a quality Western Kentucky squad. Note that they have just two road wins to their credit this season and neither of those came against winning opponents. Florida International should be eager to wipe the sour taste out of its mouth following a blowout loss at Charleston last time out. The Panthers return home where they've yet to lose a game this season. All of their victories against teams with losing records here at home have come by at least seven points. Marshall falls into that category having won just nine times in 21 games this season. Marshall rolled the last time these two teams met last March but I expect a different story to unfold this time around. Take Florida International (8*).

The set-up: Montreal opened up the second half with a listless 4-2 home loss vs. the Capitals on Monday night. Now it faces an equally as hungry Buffalo team which also came out flat by falling 5-2 at home to the lowly Senators on Tuesday. These two teams have not lived up to expectations whatsoever this season and each needs to make a move now, or they'll once again be on the outside of the playoffs looking in. From a situational stand point, I think this one definitely sets up as a lower-scoring "under," as I expect each to risk life and limb getting into shooting and passing lanes to try and pull out a victory.
The pick: Note as well that the Habs have seen the total dip under the number in seven of their last 11 Eastern Conference road games after losing by two goals or more in their previous outing, while Buffalo has seen the total go under in eight of its last 12 home games after a loss by three goals or more in its previous outing and in which it allowed five or more goals in. I think this one sneaks under the number once it's all said and done.

The Utah Jazz 32-15 (24-21-2 ATS) played Wednesday night in San Antonio, and lost 127-120, and Thursday night they play in the Mile High City vs. the Denver Nuggets 32-15 (21-23-3 ATS). The odds currently favor the Nuggets by -1 (Opened at +1), and the Over/Under is set at 215.5.
These two teams are meeting for the first of four times over the final 35 games of the season, and the records are nearly identical.
The Nuggets are 3-2 in the L5 games and lost last time out 104-96 to the Memphis Grizzlies on the road on Tuesday. Before that loss they had won 8 of 11. Last game out they got massive performances however from their starting front court Grant & Jokic. The two combined for 46 points, 17 boards and 9x 3-pointers and were the leading scorers for the Nuggets.
Is it just me or are you noticing the Jazz defense isn't all it used to be? They allowed 70 first half points to the Spurs and didn't look good at all. Gobert is getting it done on defense as always and he's a force with 11 straight double double's...one problem...Jokic can and will play him tough.
Some trends to consider. Jazz are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Denver. Denver are 8-4 SU in their last 12 games, 15-4 SU in their last 19 games at home, and 13-4 SU in their last 17 games against an opponent in the Western conference.
I'm expecting a low scoring tight affair here on Thursday night, but the Nuggets with the altitude advantage, rest advantage, and home crowd advantage eek out a W here on Thursday night. I can't put my finger on it but something isn't right in Utah, and I'm looking for them to struggle on D again Thursday.

North Dakota is coming off 2 straight home wins but they were facing the 2 worst teams in the Summit (Denver & Western Illinois). Now they go on the road where they are 3-10 this season with their only conference win coming @ Denver who is 1-7 in conference play and 5-17 overall. IPFW is 7-3 at home this year with their 2 conference losses here coming vs South Dakota State (#1 rated team in the league) and Oral Roberts (#2 rated team in the league). In those games IPFW was a 1.5 point underdog in each just a few weeks ago and now they are just -2 vs a North Dakota team that rates #6 in the league just slightly above IPFW in our power ratings. These two met earlier this month and North Dakota was favored by 4.5 at home over the Mastodons. That, along with their spreads at home vs the two top teams in the league, tells us IPFW should be favored by 3.5 to 4.5 here but because of their 4 game losing streak, they are only favored by 2. When they met @ UND the host won by 14 hitting 57% from the field (12% above their average) and 45% from beyond the arc (10% above their average). We don’t expect them to produce anywhere close to those offensive numbers tonight on the road where they’ve struggled. UND is one of the worst spread teams in the nation going just 5-14 ATS overall this season and just 3-11 ATS as an underdog this year. IPFW is 3-0 ATS as a home favorite this year and 6-2 ATS in that role dating back to last year. IPFW gets the win and cover at home tonight.

I really like the value here with the OVER in Thursday's Sun Belt matchup between Coastal Carolina and Arkansas-Little Rock. While these two played to a combined score of just 126 earlier this season, there's plenty of reason to expect a much higher-scoring affair this time around.
The Chanticleers couldn't have shot much worse in the first meeting, despite getting 18 more shots (73 to 55) they were outscored 71-55, as they shot just 31.5% from the field and were 5 for 25 (20%) from deep. That's an outlier for this team, as they are averaging 77.9 ppg on the season and 71.0 ppg in Sun Belt play.
Little Rock connected on 51% of their attempts and shot a healthy 39% from deep in that game. While great, it's not out of the ordinary for this team, which is averaging 73 ppg on 49% shooting in conference games.
Another key is we should get the tempo we need to go over a total of this magnitude, as the Chanticleers play at the fastest pace in the Sun Belt and are ranked 28th in tempo in the country.
OVER is 5-1 in Little Rock's last 6 as a favorite and 5-1 in their last 6 at home. OVER is also 8-1 in the Chanticleers last 9 road games and a perfect 5-0 in their last 5 on the road vs a team that's won more than 60% of their home games. Take the OVER!

I'll take my chances here with Denver as a slim 1.5-point home favorite against the Jazz. Utah went on that incredible run that saw them go 19-2 over a 21-game stretch, but have lost their last two. The first being a shocking home loss to Houston as a double-digit favorite, as the Rockets were without Harden, Westbrook and Capela. That was on Monday. Last night they lost 127-120 at San Antonio, allowing a Spurs team down one of their best players in LaMarcus Aldridge to shoot 56%.
Now they are in absolute brutal spot playing in the 2nd game of a back-to-back and 3rd in 4 days in the thin air of Denver against what should be a highly motivated Nuggets team that is coming off a 12-point loss at Memphis. Denver is still missing some key guys to injury, but this is a deep team and those injuries really haven't bothered them so much at home. where they are 18-6 on the season.
Nuggets are 8-3-3 ATS in their last 14 games off a loss and have not lost consecutive games since losing 3 in a row on the road in early December. It's also worth noting the Jazz are a mere 1-5 ATS in their last 6 trips to Denver. Give me the Nuggets -1.5!
