Red Sox-1½

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach MLB Game #966 Sunday Free Pick Boston Red Sox Run Line (-1.5 runs) vs Seattle Mariners @ 1:05 ET - Since putting on a Red Sox uniform, Chris Sale has been particularly unhittable in day games. The Boston lefty is 8-2 with a 2.16 ERA in his day game starts and has held opponents to a batting average of just .153 last season and only .141 so far this season! He also is 5-1 with a 2.17 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in his 8 career starts versus the Mariners. After an ugly loss for the Red Sox yesterday, look for Sale to lead them to the winners circle early this afternoon. However, I am not going to lay a huge money line price of course. That is where the value of the run line comes into play. By laying the 1.5 runs with the Red Sox this price range is very nearly a "pick'em" with the key factor that we need Boston to win by 2 or more runs. 10 of the last 11 Red Sox wins have come by a margin of at least 2 runs. 6 of Seattle's 8 losses in June have come by 2 or more runs. In other words, the odds are strong that a Red Sox win should get us the run line cover here. The Mariners are starting Marco Gonzales in this one. The Seattle left-hander is currently struggling as he has given up 9 earned runs on 15 hits in just 9 and 1/3 innings spanning his last two starts. The M's southpaw has given up 4 homers in his last two road starts. Compare this to Sale whom has allowed only 4 earned runs in his last 3 starts. In those outings, the Red Sox lefty has given up just 11 hits while striking out 30 in 22 innings of work. Domination likely here. Free Pick Boston Red Sox Run Line -1.5 runs

Play - Arizona Diamondbacks w/Buchholz (Game 955).

Edges - Diamondbacks: Buchholz 20-5 last 25 overall team starts during June; and 2.14 ERA with 1.04 WHIP this season … With Buchholz in fine KW form with 25 Ks and 6 BBs, we recommend a 1* play on Arizona. Thank you and good luck as always.

My free play is on the Mil Brewers at 2:10 ET.

The St. Louis Cardinals meet the Milwaukee Brewers today in the finale of a four-game series. The Cardinals dropped the first two games of the series before eking out a 3-2 victory on Saturday to give themselves a shot at the split. However, St. Louis enters this contest having dropped eight of its last 11 overall and is still struggling to at the plate, as the Cards managed to earn the victory on Saturday with just four hits. The 39-36 Cardinals have not scored more than three runs in any of their last four games and currently sit third in the NL Central, 5 1/2 games back. The 45-31 Brewers remain atop of the NL Central, two games up on the Cubs. Milwaukee's pitching staff has carried the team lately, allowing three or fewer runs in four straight contests and eight of the last 10 (just a modest 6-4 in that run, though).

Luke Weaver (3-6, 4.69 ERA) will take the mound for St. Louis and he will be opposed by Milwaukee's Jhoulys Chacin (6-2, 3.18 ERA). Weaver is in his first full season in the regular starting rotation (made 18 starts combined in 2016 & '17) and takes the mound this afternoon having failed to complete six innings in any of his last five starts plus is winless in his last seven, compiling a 0-4 record in that span (note: team is 3-0 in his no-decisions). Weaver is 2-2 with a 4.41 ERA in six career starts against the Brewers with a 2-2 mark and 3.68 ERA in four starts at Miller Park, where he lasted just four innings while taking a loss after giving up four runs on four hits in an 8-3 loss on May 28 of this season.

Chacin is an 11-year vet and 2018 is shaping up as a very 'lucky' one. He is coming off a tough-luck loss at Pittsburgh on Monday, when he allowed just one run and six hits over 6 1/3 innings but could not get any run support in a game the Brewers went on to lose 1-0. However, he has allowed one or zero runs in three of his last four starts and FIVE of his last seven. The Brewers are 12-4 in Chacin starts in 2018 and his moneyline mark of plus-$856 ranks sixth-best among all MLB starters. Chacin did make back-to-back starts against St. Louis in April and went 0-1 (Brewers were 1-1) while surrendering a total of nine runs (six ERs) over 10 1/3 innings (5.23 ERA).

Chacin has been the much better pitcher this season and has posted a 2.31 ERA in six starts at Miller Park this year. Meanwhile, Weaver comes in winless since May 11 (seven-start stretch) and on the road in 2018, owns a 5.26 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. Take the Brewers.

Good luck...Larry

Sunday comp play is the same as yesterday's comp play, and that is to play the Under in the Yankees-Rays contest from Tropicana Field.

The Yankees were blanked 4-0 yesterday, that after losing 2-1 on Friday night in the series opener.

New York is now on an overall 21-5-1 Under run their last 27 games played, including 16 of their last 17 games.

They are also on a series run with Tampa Bay of 5 straight Under, and an overall Under run versus the Rays of 13-3-1 the last 17 series meetings!

Domingo German will face Matt Andriese in this contest, and each of German's last 3 starts, and 5 of his 8 overall starts this season have landed Under the posted price. That does include his June 14th effort against Tampa Bay in which he struck out 10 and allowed just 3 runs in his 6 innings of work.

I say side with the Low again today in New York and Tampa Bay.

The free pick run continues tonight, as I take this 17-6 win streak into Cincinnati, where I like the Reds to get things done against the Chicago Cubs for a fourth straight night.

I told you the Reds were a value at +155 on Thursday night, told you I liked them at +130 on Friday night, then told you to take them yesterday at +105.

While I know the Cubs own Cincinnati, they're not undefeated in the series, they're just 43-22 over the last four seasons. So that's about 2 out of every 3 games. But why not take the streaking Reds, with plenty of value while riding a six-game win streak, including three in a row against Chicago?

While the Cubs are battling the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central, the Reds are fighting their way out of the cellar. They're 14 back of the Brewers, but only five back of fourth-place Pittsburgh.

The Reds have won nine of 13 after taking an 11-2 win over the Cubs on Saturday, and are riding some offensive momentum with the sixth-best batting average (.255) in baseball. This month, Cincinnati is hitting a league third-best .283, one point behind second-place Colorado.

And if you look deeper, the Reds are not overpowering teams with power hitting or a lot of runs. They're simply finding ways to win, by manufacturing runs.

That could be troublesome for the Cubs if they overlook Cincinnati's tenacity a fourth straight night. Chicago has struggled to plate runs this month, with just 76 across, 21st in the league.

Let's take a shot here, as Cincinnati aims for the win.

My free winner for today is on the Cleveland Indians on the Run Line, against the Detroit Tigers.

Though pitchers are automatically listed when making Run Line wagers, I am insisting you DO NOT worry about who the scheduled starters are. In the event of a scratch, you MUST re-wager the game with the new pitcher(s) who are scheduled. This play will stand no matter who pitches for either team.

We have the top two teams in the American League Central, but only one of them has a better-than .500 record. The Indians (42-33) lead the division by seven games, while the Tigers (36-41) are in second place, just in front of the Minnesota Twins.

Cleveland has won six straight and is 26-13 at home this season.

The Tigers, who have lost four in a row and are 13-24 on the road, have been less than impressive this month, hitting just .226 in June. Their run production is significantly lower than they'd like, with just 74 runs scored in June.

They won't be able to contend with the red-hot Indians, who should win this by a few runs.

4* INDIANS RUN LINE

Kansas City (Hammel) @ Houston (Cole) 2:10 PM ET

Game# 971-972

Play On: Under 7.5

Jason Hammel has seen all 6 of his day game starts go under the total this season while collecting a solid 3.68 ERA during those outings. Kansas City has gone under the total in 5 straight and those games averaged a combined 5.2 runs scored per outing. The Royals are averaging a pathetic 2.3 runs per game and have an atrocious .537 OPS throughout its previous 7.

Gerrit Cole is a sparkling 13-2 during his team starts in 2018 while amassing a sparkling 2.59 ERA and 0.89 ERA. Cole has proven to be one of the best power pitchers in baseball this season by striking out 138 men in 100 2/3 innings pitched. He’ll be facing a Royals lineup on Saturday that averages striking out more than 9 times per game thru its previous 7 outings. The Astros bullpen has been extremely dominant over their last 7 games with a staff 0.81 ERA and 0.67 WHIP. Houston has seen each of their last 4 go under the total and there were a combined 4.3 runs scored per game. Bet on this game to go under the total for my Sunday 6/24 MLB free pick of the day.
