ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – John Fox’s moves keep backfiring like an old jalopy.
First there was his decision to start Elvis Dumervil with a bum shoulder in Denver’s opener against Oakland. Dumervil played sparingly and ineffectively and has missed the last two games.
Then, Fox decided based on a-half day’s practice that Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Lloyd was ready to return from a strained groin against Cincinnati. When Lloyd couldn’t go, the Broncos were down to three wide receivers and one of them got hurt, forcing Tim Tebow to play emergency wide receiver.
The coach and call are being second-guessed again after Fox decided to forego a sure field goal at Tennessee on fourth-and-goal Sunday only to watch Willis McGahee get stuffed short of the goal line. The Titans came back to win 17-14.
