Pirates Season Odds

The Pittsburgh Pirates are once again in rebuilding mode, so not much is expected of them in 2010. Let’s take a look at their odds.

Bet 2010 World Series Odds

The Pirates made a couple moves this offseason, signing relievers Octavio Dotel, Brendan Donnelly and Javier Lopez to free agent deals, as well as outfielder Ryan Church and shortstop Bobby Crosby. The club also acquired second baseman Akinori Iwamura from the Rays for reliever Jesse Chavez.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Pirates a 150/1 long shot to win the 2010 World Series. They’re also 70/1 to win the National League Pennant, 50/1 to win the NL Central and have an over/under total of 69.5 for number of wins in 2010.

The Pirates don’t have enough talent to make a postseason run this year, although they do have some scattered talent – most of it coming from their pitching staff. Zach Duke, Ross Ohlendorf and Paul Maholm have plenty of potential and upside, but their efforts will once again be wasted because of the Bucs’ weak offense.

That said, Andrew McCutchen, Garrett Jones and Ryan Doumit are an intriguing trio and Lastings Milledge has flashed some decent ability as well. If everything breaks right, the Pirates might be able to get out of the NL Central this year, but chances are they’ll sink to the bottom of the division once again.
