Marlins Season Odds
The Florida Marlins will once again be cheap and youthful, but can they make a run in 2010? Let’s take a look at their odds.
As usual, the Marlins didn’t make any sort of a splash in free agency. They did acquire pitchers Jose Alvarez and Hunter Jones in exchange for right hander Jeremy Hermida, as well as Rule 5 pick Jorge Jimenez, shortstop Luis Bryan and pitcher Robert Bono from the Astros for reliever Matt Lindstrom.
Along with Hermida and Lindstrom, the Marlins lost Ross Gload, Nick Johnson, Alfredo Amezaga, Kiko Calero and Brendan Donnelly.
As usual, the Marlins have a ton of young talent that could blossom into quality players down the road. But can Chris Coghlan, Cameron Maybin and Emilio Bonifacio help Hanley Ramirez (the only stud on Florida’s roster outside of ace Josh Johnson) and Florida win now? The Marlins are always better than what people project they’ll be, but it’s going to be tough for them to unseat the Phillies in the NL East. Still, Florida was in the NL Wild Card hunt last year and will likely be competitive once again this season.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Marlins 30/1 to win the 2010 World Series and 18/1 to win the NL Pennant. They’re also 8/1 to win the NL East and have an over/under of 80.5 for total number of regular season wins.
