(The Spread) – The Dallas Stars are still clinging onto their fading playoff hopes and will attempt to rebound from a loss Saturday at Los Angeles with another road contest Sunday night at Anaheim.
Dallas is 38-28-11 overall and 18-17-3 on the road, but have 87 points to put it five points behind current eighth seed Chicago with five games to go. Anaheim has a record of 44-29-5 and 24-12-2 at home, good for seventh in the Western Conference with 93 points.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Ducks a -165 favorite and the over-under is 5.5.
According to latest NHL trends, Anaheim is 9-8 against the spread versus Dallas over the last three seasons. Anaheim is 22-11 ATS in a home game where the total is 5.5 this season.
NHL Free Pick: Dallas is coming into this one with a never-say-die attitude and the knowledge that favorable schedule this week gives it some semblance of hope in making one final push. Anaheim is still a team that could conceivably be caught if it tanks over the next week-plus. I’m thinking that the Stars’ mindset of a must-win will be a bit stronger than the Ducks’. Both teams played Saturday night, so energy will not favor one team or the other. I’ve won with the last three NHL underdogs I have taken, so I’m feeling confident this could be another one.
