Fresh off an impressive showing on Sunday Night Football, the Indianapolis Colts travel west this Sunday to take on the Denver Broncos, who earned their first victory of the year last week. Let’s take a look at this game and make a prediction.
Before handing out our free pick and making a prediction for this Week 3 matchup, let’s take a look at the odds.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Colts 6-point favorites over the Broncos in Week 3. The over/under total for this game has been set at 48 points.
One of the keys that went into making a prediction for this game is looking at the value of an underdog. Clearly the Broncos are the inferior team in this matchup (which is why they’re the underdog), but they’re coming off a win and have found a new playmaker in rookie receiver Demaryius Thomas (8 catches, 91 yards, 1 TD last week). Don’t forget that the Colts also have to travel cross-country, which is not an easy thing to do for most teams.
Granted, Peyton Manning is going to find ways to win in the end, but we’ve already seen the Colts have trouble with teams that run the ball well and if Denver can open some holes for Knowshon Moreno, the Broncos could be a great, underrated pick here.
Picks & Predictions:
Betting against Manning is a hard thing to do. It makes my stomach turn, but one thing that factored into my prediction for this game is the natural letdown. The Colts are coming off a big win against the Giants (a win that they needed following an embarrassing loss to the Texans in Week 1) and now have to travel cross-country to take on a Broncos team that nobody is quite sure what to make of yet. If you pick the Colts, you’re going to lay 6 points with a road team coming off an emotional win on national television that now has to play in a hostile environment against a somewhat underrated and undervalued dog.
I’m going the other way – my free pick for this game is the Broncos and the points.
