The Jacksonville Jaguars hope the additions they made this offseason will allow them to make a postseason run in 2010. But did they do enough?

The biggest addition the Jaguars made this offseason was trading for the ultra-productive Kirk Morrison, who was the rock in the middle of the Raiders’ defense for the last couple of years. The Jags also inked defensive end Aaron Kampman and linebacker Freddy Keiaho to free agent deals this offseason.

Jacksonville needed to address its linebacker, safety and defensive line heading into April’s draft and they did just that with several picks. Counting the trade for Morrison, the Jags did well to fill needs. Although he was a massive reach at No. 10, the Jags selected California defensive end Tyson Alualu in the first round, Louisiana Tech defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith in the third, and Central Arkansas defensive end Larry Hart in the fifth.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the Jaguars 75/1 long-shots to win the 2011 Super Bowl and 40/1 to win the AFC. They’re also +1000 on the moneyline to win the AFC South Division and have an over/under season win total of 7 games this year.

The Jaguars appear to be getting closer to their goal of returning to the playoffs, but they’ll have to overachieve to be successful in 2010. There’s some lingering doubt about whether or not David Garrard is the answer at quarterback and their offensive line is still relatively young. Their defense has some holes as well, even with the addition of Morrison. Losing John Henderson also hurts, even though he’s not the dominant player he once was.

That said, having Maurice Jones-Drew in their backfield will certainly give Jacksonville an opportunity to compete every Sunday. He has emerged as a superstar in this league and as long as he stays healthy, the Jags will have a shot. They’re not a typical long-shot in the fact that they’ll be in most games this year, but they still need a lot of luck in order to make the postseason in 2010.
