Texans Season Odds
The Houston Texans have been knocking on the playoff door the past two seasons. Is this the year they finally put it all together and make a run?
This offseason, the Texans signed kicker Neil Rackers, center Wade Smith and tight end Michael Gaines to free agent contracts, although lost their best defensive back to Atlanta when Dunta Robinson signed with the Falcons. But outside of Robinson, the Texans emerged from the offseason without losing anymore key pieces to their team.
Heading into April’s draft, Houston focused on its needs at cornerback, running back, safety and defensive line. In the first three rounds, they selected Alabama cornerback Kareem Jackson in the first, running back Ben Tate of Auburn in the second, and defensive tackle Earl Mitchell of Arizona in the third. Thus, they filled several needs via the draft.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the Texans are 28/1 to win the 2011 Super Bowl and 15/1 to win the AFC. They’re also +350 on the moneyline to win the AFC South and have an over/under win total this year of 8 games.
The core is certainly in place this year for the Texans to make the postseason. Quarterback Matt Schaub leads an offense that also includes dynamic receiver Andre Johnson and tight end Owen Daniels, and if running back Steve Slaton can hold onto the football then he could play a key role in the team’s success this year too. Defensively, DeMeco Ryans and Mario Williams led a steadily improving unit that.
The only concerns are that face this team outside of being able to replace Robinson in the secondary is whether or not the Texans can win within the division this year. They struggled against AFC South opponents last year and if they’re to make the playoffs, they’ll need better performances against the Colts, Jaguars and Titans. Outside of that, this team is cocked and loaded.
2011 Super Bowl Odds: Houston Texans 28/1
Odds to win AFC: Houston Texans 15/1
Odds to win AFC South: Houston Texans +350
2010 NFL Season Win Total: Houston Texans O/U 8
