College Football Week 5 Trends

The fifth week of the 2010 College Football Season has a lot of big time matchups and sometimes a look at the trends can make the difference between a good bet and a bad bet.

Bet 2010 College Football Week 5 Odds

The key game of the week has No. 1 Alabama hosting No. 7 Florida for a 8PM ET showdown.  Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have made Alabama an 8-point favorite at home over the Gators. The Tide are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a home favorite and 4-0 ATS in their last four at home overall.

There are 15 games featuring ranked teams this week, here are a few trends to consider for each marquee contest:

No. 16 Miami at Clemson – Noon ET

Trends favor Clemson in this contest as the Tigers are 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 games as underdogs of 3.5-to-10 points and 6-2 ATS in their last eight as a home underdog. Miami is just 1-5 ATS in their last six conference games and 11-28 ATS in their last 39 following an ATS win.

No 2 Ohio State at IllinoisNoon ET

Trends favor Ohio State in this game as the Buckeyes are 9-1 against the spread vs. a team with a winning record and 21-5 ATS in their last 26 road games. Illinois is just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games.

Louisiana-Monroe at No. 10 Auburn – Noon ET

Neither team has the trends really backing them, but they tend to favor Auburn a little more. ULM is 0-6 against the spread in their last six games on grass and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. Auburn is 20-7-1 ATS in their last 28 after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.

No. 5 TCU at Colorado State – 2PM ET

It shouldn’t be too surprising that the trends favor TCU. The Horned Frogs are 8-2 against the spread after failing to prior in the previous game and 7-1 ATS against a team with a losing record. Colorado State, on the other hand, is just 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 0-6 ATS in their last six conference games.

Virginia Tech at No. 23 N.C. State – 3:30PM ET

The trends favor N.C. State in this game as the Hokies are just 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games in October while the Wolfpack is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as a home underdog.

No. 11 Wisconsin at No. 24 Michigan State – 3:30PM ET

Trends favor Wisconsin in this game as the Badgers are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 as a road favorite of 0.5-to-3 points. Michigan State is just 1-6 ATS in their last seven as a home underdog and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five conference games.

No. 19 Michigan at Indiana – 3:30PM ET

Trends in this game actually favor Indiana as the Hoosiers are 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Michigan is just 2-7 ATS in their last nine games in October and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games as a favorite.

No. 21 Texas vs. No. 8 Oklahoma

Trends tend to favor Texas in the game as the Longhorns are 7-0 against the spread after a double-digit loss at home. The Longhorns are also 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight conference games. Oklahoma is just 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine after a straight up win.

Tennessee at No. 12 LSU – 3:30PM ET

Trends favor Tennessee in this game as the Volunteers are 7-0 against the spread in their last 7 games as a road underdog of 10.5 points ore more and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in October. LSU is just 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite of 10.5 points ore more.

No. 3 Boise State at New Mexico State – 8PM ET

Trends tend to lean toward Boise State in this one as the Broncos are 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. New Mexico State is just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games and 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 against a team with a winning record.

Washington at No. 18 USC – 8PM ET

Trends favor Washington for this contest as the Huskies are 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games after a ATS loss while USC is just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 Pac-10 contests.

No. 9 Stanford at No. 4 Oregon – 8PM ET

Trends favor Stanford in this game as the Cardinal is 4-0 against the spread in the last four road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Pac-10 contests. Oregon is just 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games as a favorite of 3.5-to-10 points.

No. 7 Florida at No. 1 Alabama – 8PM ET

Both teams have strong trends in this game but Alabama’s are a little stronger as it is 4-0 against the spread in their last four at home and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. Florida is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games and 15-7 ATS in their lass 22 conference games.

No. 22 Penn State at No. 17 Iowa – 8:05PM ET

The trends are in Iowa’s favor for this game as the Hawkeyes are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven as a favorite of 3.5-to-10 points and 12-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. Penn State is just 1-5 ATS in their last six as a road underdog.

No. 25 Nevada at UNLV – 10 PM ET

Trends side with Nevada as the Wolf Pack are 7-0 against the spread in their last seven after a straight up win and 4-0 ATS in their last four road games. The Rebels are just 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall and 0-6 ATS in their last six against a team with a winning record.
