CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -Freshman Cameron Wells had career highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Citadel to a 79-55 victory over Atlanta Christian on Saturday.
Wells, a 6-foot-1 guard from Houston, had 5 of his points as the Bulldogs (4-5) broke on top 9-0 less than three minutes in and never trailed in the victory.
Citadel eventually led by 29 in the opening period, 44-15, after Matt Clark’s layup with 1:22 left before the break.
Wells increased the lead to 51-20, the Citadel’s biggest margin, early in the second half with a pair of free throws. That’s when Atlanta Christian (7-9) rallied with a 20-6 run over the next seven minutes, cutting the Bulldogs lead to 17 points.
However, Wells answered with a jumper and two foul shots to put Citadel in control once more.
Wells made 10 of 13 shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. Clark added 14 points for the Bulldogs.
Stacy Williams was the only player for Atlanta Christian in double figures with 17 points. He also led the team with seven rebounds.
